Quality Canvas Canvas is the new benchmark set by Exmoor Trim when using a natural al cotton fiber 100%. The canvas has many pitfalls and, using modern production techniques and color proofs, we have reproduced the original color, greatly reduced shrinkage and retained all the crucial features that all our customers have come to expect from an Exmoor canopy.

All buckles and tips are solid brass and we only use nickel plated brass eyelets.

Cotton canvas hoods have been a standard Land Rover feature since they first appeared in 1948. It is a strong and durable material, but it requires proper care for best results.

The canvas is a traditional product made in the 100% in natural cotton fiber. It is dyed to add color and then treated to provide protection against rot, fungus and UV damage.

The texture of the canvas is designed to allow for a certain amount of shrinkage along the length of a roll, about the 2%

Shrinkage is a natural and inevitable feature of the canvas. You will notice on the first assembly that your hood appears a little’ largo. When the hood shrinks, it will adapt to the shape of your vehicle to create a perfect fit. However, if the hood is not maintained correctly, the hood voltage will continue to reduce to the point that it will no longer fit properly.

By following a few simple steps, your hood will fit properly for many years.

Keeping a properly taut hood is extremely important. Tension is applied to the cap by means of straps and ropes. Starting from the front, the hood is fixed above the windshield. The front set of roof straps can be tightened around the front support frame. Therefore, moving to the rear of the vehicle, the rear curtain is fixed in place and tightened with the straps that go down to the cover of the body. The final step is to place the side curtains and tighten the cords along the bottom edge.

Wetting the hood and letting it dry naturally, the hood will shrink and adapt to the shape of your vehicle. If possible, this should be done a few times when the hood is new.

It is extremely important to make sure the cap is properly taut before it dries, especially in the first four weeks.

If the voltage is not maintained on these panels, especially when the hood is wet, the hood will move forward. It is very difficult once a hood has been allowed to shrink to stretch it again. Try not to keep the sides of the hood and rear curtains rolled up at night when the hood gets wet or leave the rear curtain rolled up when it rains. If the cap gets wet with the rolled side up, try tying it back and taut before it dries.

Letting the hood dry with the sides rolled up is a classic problem and many owners are surprised at how quickly this shrinkage can occur..

Ensure that the main hood straps are kept in tension, especially if new, it will greatly reduce the problems later. When you buy a new hood, maintain tension for at least the first four weeks! So follow the simple rules for tightening the hood when wet.

To ensure the longevity of your hood, We recommend that you apply a coat of canvas waterproofer such as Nikwax or Fabsil each 6-12 months.

The canvas should be cleaned by hand with warm water and a soft brush or cloth. Don't be tempted to pressure wash your hood.
